Peanuts
To ensure peanut crops get adequate nutrition for optimal growth, maintaining good fertility from one season to the next is critical. Consider using nutrient use efficiency products alongside fertilizer applications to improve plant uptake and help reduce loss of applied nutrients.

Key Considerations for Peanut Crops
Nutrient Management & Plant Growth
Crop nutrition is incredibly important for peanut production. Because legumes fix their own nitrogen, Inoculant use is key to encourage healthy N production in peanut crops. In addition, the fertility program of the previously planted crop is critical, as maintaining good fertility from one season to the next ensures peanuts are getting adequate nutrition. To maximize crop performance, consider using a nutrient use efficiency product to prevent loss or leaching of applied fertilizer.
Pest Control & Other Growing Requirements
Peanuts are susceptible to diseases; fortunately, this can be managed with crop rotation and fungicides. Crop rotation — typically with cotton and corn crops, at least in the southeast U.S. — is also key to improve crop yield and prevent disease, weeds and chemical residue. If herbicides are required for weed control, they should be applied early in the season.
Water & Soil Requirements
Ideal soils for peanut crops are coarse-textured and well-drained. Although finer textured soils can be productive, it can make water and disease more difficult to manage. Typical peanut soils have a low water holding capacity, and water management is crucial for a productive crop
Key Nutrients
Nitrogen
Inoculation of peanut crops is critical to maximizing production, since nitrogen is the highest volume nutrient absorbed. Nitrogen can be applied as fertilizer, but it isn’t common.
Calcium
Needed in very large quantities and are commonly applied to the field.
Potassium
Needed in very large quantities and are commonly applied to the field.
Phosphorus
Finding the right balance is essential for high yields.
Magnesium

Micronutrients
Zinc
Manganese
Iron
Copper
