Course Description
Course Code: NUE-RS 220-5
CEU Credit Category:
Nutrient Management CEU Credit: 0.50
Presenter:
Sat Darshan S. Khalsa, PhD
Assistant Project Scientist, University of California Davis, Department of Plant Sciences
Summary:
Nitrogen Cycling Losses includes the main processes of Volatilization, Leaching and Denitrification. The volatilization section will review soil conditions and practices susceptible to ammonia losses. The leaching section will discuss the plant soil environment of excess nitrate in combination with soil water movement that creates leaching potential. The denitrification section will discuss nitrate reduction under anaerobic conditions leading to gaseous N loss.
In this course you will learn:
- Soil conditions and practices susceptible to ammonia losses
- The plant soil environment that creates potential for nitrate leaching
- The anaerobic processes of denitrification and species of N gaseous loss
