JW Lemons

A native of Washington state, JW grew up raising apples, pears, and cherries on a family farm, becoming foreman for three small fruit ranches at the age of 14. After Serving in the U.S. Army, he again pursued his passion for agriculture by earning an Associate’s degree in Crop Production, Harvest and Storage, completing his degree while raising a family and working for the USDA. JW was awarded the USDA Upward Mobility position and went on to complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management from Washington State University. JW then became the head scientist for a Washington State reclamation district, where he led them to receive a national award in irrigation water conservation.
Using his knowledge in the post-harvest chemical side of agriculture, JW handled four west coast states, and South America. He became a PCA, then moved his focus to CCA by 2000 and focused on crop nutrition. JW has been a crop advisor and Agronomist for more than 25 years in the United States and Canada, including work with tree fruits, nuts, grapes, row crops, field crops, nursery crops, greenhouse, organics and turf & ornamentals, even serving on the Professional Turf Managers Board of Directors for southern California.
JW has also been a freelance writer, instructor, and speaker on plant nutrition, publishing dozens of crop nutrition articles in a wide variety of agriculture magazines. JW became involved with WRCCA (Western Region Certified Crop Advisors) Executive Board in 2015 where he has served as Secretary, Vice Chair, Chairman and now Chair Ex-Officio. In 2016, Lemons joined the ranks of Certified Professional Agronomist (CPAg). He recently received the 2020 Western Region CCA of the year award.
