Course Description

Course Code: NUE-RS 218-5-10

CEU Credit Category:
Sustainability CEU Credit: 0.50
Nutrient Management CEU Credit: 0.50

Presenter:
Sat Darshan S. Khalsa, PhD

Assistant Project Scientist, University of California Davis, Department of Plant Sciences

Summary:
Nitrogen Cycling in Plants including the main processes of Uptake, Assimilation and Remobilization. The uptake section will review ammonium and nitrate uptake as well as transport within plants. The assimilation section will describe assimilation reactions in plant leaves and roots, and the differences in energetics between ammonium and nitrate assimilation. The remobilization section will discuss phloem mobility in plants and explanations of nitrogen deficiency and utilization efficiency.

In this course you will learn:

  • Ammonium and nitrate uptake and within plant transport
  • Assimilation reactions and energetics of ammonium and nitrate
  • Remobilization through phloem mobility and links to deficiency and utilization efficiency
