After all, as South America managing director, he helped pull together the team that focuses on spreading the story of Nutrient Use Efficiency throughout Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia. That team is less than two years old at Verdesian, but they are already doing great things in that beautiful part of the world.

“I enjoy working at Verdesian with the great team we were able to assemble,” says Sergio, “as we have the chance to build a business from scratch. That is always exciting and entrepreneurial.”

Sergio came to Verdesian well-prepared for the role. He brought a quarter of a century of experience in biologicals; he worked with the commercial biological business in South America for Monsanto. Before that he led Merck and Novozymes’ biological business as general manager. Sergio earned a degree in Agribusiness and a master’s degree in economics.

Agriculture is quite close to his heart. He was born in Buenos Aires but spent the first decade of his life splitting time between there and Italy thanks to an Italian father. Even to this day, Sergio is charged with taking care of his family calf farm, located in the middle of the Argentinian pampas.

“I’ve always related to the farm,” he says.

A proud father of five (three boys and two girls), Sergio loves skiing the Andes with his family or exploring the very unexplored Patagonia region. He was an active volleyball player for years, and also loves playing – and following – soccer, like most Argentinians. (He’s a fan of River Plate.) Sergio is also quite proud of his Sunday asado (traditional barbecue) dinners.

“We are doing good things at Verdesian Life Sciences – all over the world,” says Sergio. “I’m proud of what we are accomplishing in South America – and beyond.”
