Because we’re starting with the fundamentals. In other words, we’re focused on the most essential, the most critical and the most indispensable of our daily decisions on the farm – not to twist any tongues, but it’s the groundwork to our literal ground work, which is necessary to produce every successful crop on every acre and support on-farm productivity.

In baseball, fundamentals are identified as a player’s skills in pitching, fielding, hitting and catching. In farming, the fundamentals include the farmer’s ability to make a series of daily decisions around agronomics, fertility, markets and seed technology – the art, science and skill behind every choice. And there are many.

It’s as much about what goes into the ground as what does not. It’s about plant biology and soil chemistry, and the technologies developed to secure their potential. And, in the end, it’s about what we do with the products – food, fiber and fuel – they produce.

But our industry’s daily groundwork is more than just what we are doing on the farm today. More than combines and sprayers. More than rainfall and sunlight. More than corn prices and contracts. More than seed rows and hybrids.

Farmers are working to build a lasting future for their families, their land and their communities that is both sustainable and profitable. That’s why the science of farming is an important foundation to everything we share here.

For us, it all starts with plant health and nutrient management. But it doesn’t stop there. It’s also about nutrient efficiency, fertilizer applications, 4Rs best practices, water quality, grain markets and the freedom to operate.

Ultimately, there are few things we can control in a global farming economy and many things we cannot, but the proper groundwork sets us up for success and prepares us for the event of an unlikely failure.

So that’s GroundWork. Let’s get started.
