As a Technical Sales Representative (TSR) for Verdesian Life Sciences, Joe Potts always has the best interests of his retailer customers top of mind. Nothing magnified that interest more than when floodwaters recently receded in his home state of Nebraska, leaving farmers, retailers and the ag community devastated. As a way to give back, Joe was a key part of a team of Verdesian employees that traveled across the Cornhusker State in April, grilling brats and burgers and feeding those affected by the floods. With just a couple of exceptions, Joe was at every single #NebraskaStrong outing, either manning the grills or delivering meals to those who couldn’t make it out.
“This is my home; these are my friends and family,” he says. “The least I could do was help out. I was just one of the many people from Verdesian who set aside time to pitch in. It was a wonderful thing to be a part of.”
At 6-5, Joe easily stands out. But it’s his work as a TSR – and as a friend to the Nebraska ag community – where he really stands out. A Certified Crop Advisor (CCA), Joe came to Verdesian (then Specialty Fertilizer Products) in February 2013 with more than a decade of experience in retail agriculture. Joe served as regional manager for Specialty Fertilizer Products, and he was a general manager of Fordyce Coop for 11 years. Joe is a proud graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy. Perhaps the only thing that he cares more about than his customers is his family; when he’s not working, Joe can be found coaching and supporting his two boys and their love of baseball – and the outdoors.
“Ag is not just an industry – it’s a family,” says Joe. “And like any family, we have to stick together and look out for one another.”
