In mid-February, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) released its new 10-year agriculture projections. While the numbers are new, the theme was consistent. The report showed a continued trend of rising demand and more production on fewer acres. In order to meet supply demands, U.S. agriculture must continue investing in science, technology and industry workers.

According to the projections, in 2015, growers will utilize 254.7 million acres of U.S. cropland for the eight major crops: corn, sorghum, barley, oats, wheat, rice, upland cotton and soybeans. In 2024, cropland acres forecast to decrease to 246 million acres. In corn, the predicted 2015 average bushel per acre is 167.2 and is forecast to increase to 185.3 by 2024.
