Tree/Orchard Fruit

Nutrients taken up by tree and orchard fruit directly impact fruit quality and taste, so it’s important that plants make the most of applied fertilizers. By enhancing uptake and slowing fixation in the soil, nutrient use efficiency products can help maximize your ROI and ensure your plants are getting the nutrients they need to succeed.

Key Considerations for Tree and Orchard Fruits

Nutrient Management

Fruit quality and taste are critical considerations for tree fruit, making the balance of all nutrients extremely important. Nutrient use efficiency products can help improve nutrient uptake and assimilation and reduce loss of applied fertilizer due to fixation or leaching. Improve your fertilizer ROI and ensure your crops are getting the most out of their nutrients by including nutrient use efficiency in your fertility plan.

Tree fruits need plenty of light to grow, so consider placement when planting — this has a significant impact on how much light the plant gets as it matures.

Water, Soil & Other Crop Considerations

Tree fruits can grow in a wide range of soils, but do best in fertile, sandy soils and loams. Although certain types of tree fruits are more tolerant to water-logging than others, soil should be well-drained for best results.

There are four different tree fruit structures — vigorous, semi-vigorous, semi-dwarf and dwarf — each producing yield differently. However, all structures have a strong root system, making them able to tolerate weather stress better than other crops.

All tree fruits are very susceptible to pests and disease on fruit or leaves, making integrated pest management an essential practice for a healthy crop.

Key Nutrients

N

Nitrogen

Important in every stage for early growth and strong fruit fill.

K

Potassium

Helps maximize fruit weight, minimize fruit disorders and deformities and encourages early growth. Important in every growth stage.

Ca

Calcium

Needed at all stages for yield, fruit quality and storage quality.

P

Phosphorus

Key at every stage except maturity to help improve fruit set and quality.
