Meet the Nutrient Use Efficiency People™: Fernando Moreno

"I am very happy to be able to offer farmers more high-tech, innovative products that allow them to have more profitable and environmentally sustainable crops.”

Agriculture runs incredibly deep in Fernando Moreno’s life and family. Not only did he grow up working on the family fruit and livestock production farm in Colombia, but he and his wife, Liliana, are linked to the sector to this day.

“We have lived and shared the passion for agricultural development, and that has led us to live in different Colombian agricultural regions together,” he says.

Today, Fernando serves as Business Manager for Verdesian Life Sciences’ Andean Region of South America. But his ag career has been diverse.

Fernando earned a degree as an Agronomist Engineer and then a Master’s in Integrated Crop Protection from the National University of Colombia. While working toward his Master’s, Fernando worked in the school’s Department of Plant Health in projects with Tropical Fruits and Oil Palm. After school, he joined Dole as IPM Director for Cut Flowers in Colombia. Fernando’s career then led him to Bayer Colombia R&D as first a Researcher and then as Development Director for rice, corn, coffee, potatoes, vegetables & fruit trees. In 2008, he became a Marketing & Sales Area Manager for Rice Protection & Seeds, where he worked through 2016. That year, he joined Hanse as Marketing Manager for Latin America.

Fernando joined Cytozyme Laboratories, Inc., in 2018 as Business Manager for the Andean Region, eventually leading to the Verdesian family.

“We have really capitalized on great opportunities with our Biostimulation and Smart Nutrition portfolio in markets such as rice, flowers, banana, oil palm, fruits and potatoes,” explains Fernando. “Now with our strong Verdesian portfolio, I am very happy to be able to offer farmers more high-tech, innovative products that allow them to have more profitable and environmentally sustainable crops.”

Fernando and Liliana, who is also an Agronomist Engineer, live in Cota, a small, agricultural town near Bogota, with their daughters Paula (17) and Valeria (13). In his free time, Fernando enjoys outdoor activities, traveling, learning about different cultures, and he having BBQ roasts with family and friends.
